It is estimated that there are about 13 million people in America alone who suffers from thyroid dysfunction. It is important to know that thyroid gland major function is to regulate the metabolism in one’s body. It means this is the gland responsible for transforming the food an individual eat as energy for the body. Dysfunction of this gland then can bring about many health problems to a person.
Yet, as it is always true on most illnesses, dysfunction of the thyroid gland is usually undetected by knowledgeable individual unless other complications have already arisen. It is important then to know first-hand the symptoms ofthyroid dysfunction so further debilitating effects to one’s health can be avoided.
Below are common symptoms of this illness:
Fatigue and Weakness – Since the role of the thyroid gland is to convert food into energy for one’s body, dysfunction of it will eventually deprived the person the right amount of energy he needs to function in his daily living. He will easily get fatigued. And since there is no enough amount of energy in his body, he will feel weak as a result.
Weight Gain – When the food one takes in is not converted into energy this of course result to build up of fats. Before an individual knows it, he is already thrice heavier than he should be.
Immune System Problems – When there is not enough energy for the body to function this goes too for the immune system of the body. One’s capacity to fight infection and diseases will be affected since the body, over all, is weak. One then is vulnerable to contract other health complications.
Cold Hands and Feet – If there is not enough energy needed by the body, it means body heat is also affected. Thus one will suffer cold hands and feet.
