Spirit in the Water

Spirit in the Water
The ocean is a funny place.
It is hard to get to know it.
It takes time to get comfortable in it, time and experiences.
“Live and Learn Matthew “, that’s what my father used to say.
There is great peace in the water, and great danger, if you do not respect it.
When I was young I tried to swim out to a boat, it was far, and I was choking and gasping.
Now I am here.
I did not swim in the ocean for many years.
Oh I played in the water, but as life goes, I got “busy, busy”
Growing up, tears and fears.
Kids, school, family, friends and jobs.
‘No time” I would say “No time”
Now I know, you have to make the time.
When I awake and am aware of my thoughts, after the chores, dogs, kids, coffee, and conversation,
I check the trees, and feel the wind, look towards the sky
How will the water be today?
Rough, cold and tumultuous?
Or calm, clear and cool?
In the morning, the air is still cool and the sun bursts through and rises with the clouds.
Maybe, the turtles will come and swim with me today.
Not every day is the same.
My mind tells me “too busy, too busy “”rush, rush”
Or it’s dark and maybe raining.
Lots of things try and keep me from the water.
Sometimes I need a push,
“Are you afraid of getting wet” she asks???
GO, you’ll feel better, she says
Once I make the decision, to go.
I feel better already
Mind over matter, get your mind around what matters
Its cooler in the early morning, the sun will not burn me.
As soon as I see the water, I am checking
Is it Clear, Waves? , current? rough?
How are the waves breaking, rolling, white water caps?
Not every day is a good day
There is always something
You have to just jump in
Sometimes it’s cloudy and rough close to shore
But when I get out in the open water it’s clear
You never know, you have to keep going to find out
Jump right through the breaking waves, get out there
Today it is calm, clear and tranquillo
The stones and coral are undisturbed on the sandy bottom
I can even see tracks in the sand, hermit crabs, or starfish?
It’s like a fresh white powder snowfall.
If there is no current, I glide along, as much like a fish as I can
Scanning the ocean floor, the grassy patches
Some days you can see for miles it seems
What I am looking for?
There’s always that thought, something big!
Maybe a whale or a dolphin?
Someday
I see turtles, and sting rays, spotted eagle rays and green turtles
Some schools of fish surprise me
It’s like being in the mountains, the view the colors, the peace and quiet, the beauty
Every day, it’s a different world
You have to “breathe in” to get it, the inspiration I mean.
A lot like living above the water.
Some days rough, crazy, unknowns, issues
Start out, make the choice, and get in the water
Breathing in and out, deep pulls, stroke and kick move forward glide….
You always get to a better place.
Take the time, to notice the surroundings
There is always something good
Even in a storm, it is always peaceful under water.
Beneath the waves, no matter how rough, the ocean is calm and quiet
Sometimes you can’t see anything, the water is cloudy
Can’t see even the sea floor the whole trip
But I still have to be here.
Lots of thoughts go through my mind, the day ahead the future, the past
This is my time, my reflection
Let it go .let the thoughts run, unwind
It’s not perfect every day, things happen, we make mistakes, life happens
The water sets me straight, be grateful today
Beams of sun light refracting through the water
Shine the way ahead, altering my perception
I cannot be afraid of shapes and shadows
Or worry what is behind me
There is always something there
Disturbing thoughts or false emotions
Dark and distant shadows
Acknowledge them and move on
I must focus ahead where the light of the spirit shines
Not to worry and misuse my imagination, faith not fear
Keep pointed in the right direction, breathe in and stroke
The next right step, do what is right in front of me
Some days I see turtles, green turtles
And they swim with me
I breathe in….”in spire” and dive deep with them
There are great things around you, even on a cloudy day
When the water is like a soup of tiny particles of sand,
Breathe in and dig deep and go for it,
When things are happening, storms and it’s all riled up
I can handle it better if I have taken in and bathed in the Blue Ocean and rising yellow sun.
Nothing can bother me after the immersion; I am elevated, exalted, and full of oxygen and happiness
I get perspective, mindfulness, meditative and thoughtful
Focused for the day, prioritize
Live for today, live in the now, be good, be kind, love and be loved, children, family and animals, people
Ask for help and grace; understand before you want to be understood
I am powerless against this huge blue mass of life
They push and push currents and tides; I have to know how to use them
Go with the flow
December through April it’s usually rough and wild, I don’t see anything for months
Winter in the blue, the ocean has seasons too
Once the current took me, Punto Brabo, where the two seas collide
The whole blue crush is moving in one direction and
You are traveling the other way
Go with the flow, steady with the current swim across it and to shore
Do not fight it
Then walk back, sometimes it’s hard, don’t panic, plan
There is a lot we are up against some days; there are hurdles, things in our path,
Like the sea respect it, recognize it admire it, but we must live
Some days it seems like the flow is going against us.
Spring time the water starts to clear, the big fish and animals come in from the deep.
There are hatchings and lots of schools and thousands of little fish, sardines ballyhoo ,masbango
Big barracudas sometimes like a shadow; they escort me out of their territory, like navy destroyers, all teeth and power
Big Rays come in to feed on the fishes
They dig in the sandy floor, coaxing out crustaceans
I catch them sometimes, they do not see me
Having breakfast in the early morning sun
Curious animals, they appear out of the deep, sizing me up and giving me the eye
A few quick powerful flaps of their wings and gone
Sometimes I try and capture the moment, but nothing really can
Enjoy the present now, savor it, drink it up
We are both curious about each other
But not invasive, strange animals out of place, well one of us is
Rainy days dark day’s storms
Cold dark,
The sea is warm, once you get in it embraces you
Pitter patter, I feel it, stop and just listen and feel
There is a strange silence, no wind
I am alone, I can see the shore, and all around me is rain
But there is peace
Once a turtles head popped up for a breath, we greeted each other
“Saludos”
Going out against the waves is tough, you have to make Great effort, swim hard
Keep focused pump the arms legs all together smooth, synchronicity
Swim straight through the waves, they flow right over you
It passes, then it’s gone then another
You have to keep pointed in the right direction
Live, faith, confidence, comes with experience,
You have to come up every once in a while and redirect,
The wind and waves push you, but keep true to your course
You might end up going in circles
Always deep breaths, in and….
Let it all out fill your self
The rhythm of the movements, my head turns with every stroke my eyes scan the sea
for strange movement or shapes
Where the two seas meet waves can come from two directions and currents change
I must keep alert and in tune with the subtle signs of things around me
I need to know when to turn around or when it’s time
Or hear the whine of boat engines, Make sure they see me
Take care of what is right in front of me do the next right thing
Sometimes, what I do no matter how small influences my life and lives of others
Think act and then feel, pause ,act
Be present for the good days and the bad days, roll with the ocean
It’s still beautiful
On the bright calm clear peaceful days I like to swim far and long
Lose myself, but I live in this world, and must conform, push through
The turtles swim with me; giant black rays glide in, eyeball to eyeball, respect
Lobsters conch, hermit crabs and fish, schools of color and uniformity strength in numbers
I swim in the schools, momentarily escaping and being one of them
A newborn season in the water, millions of fish, spring in the sea
Fisherman come in small boats, nets, the birds hang overhead
Big fish come to see the little fish
Life is grand, smooth surface
The magic is always there, you just can’t see it every day
Every day is a new day a different set of circumstances
But the magic is always there
If you never take a chance or do something difficult or risk things
How will you know beauty and peace?
If you are in the water you might see something beautiful,
And someone might see the beauty in you
Look inside the water, the water is in you, you are in the water
There is so much to see
Blue sky and ocean, let it wash you
Wash your mind, cleanse your soul and feed your spirit
Life is in the water, full of it
Take it with you
Even on cloudy days
You have to be there, and look for it, breathe it in
Mindfulness, consciousness, connecting with the vibrations of the universe
I had to travel the world in search of it
Only to realize it is all around me
I live and breathe it
Feed the spirit, body mind and soul
The innocent creatures around you ,the good life in this world
I see the light, the sun shines through the water
Another day blessed
As I go forward this day
My mind and heart cleansed
Filled with the breath of the spirit
