“Health is wealth” – a statement which one has been hearing since his childhood days. Since time immemorial, one has taken immense care of his health. One never want’s to let go off the mortal self, therefore the various “yajnas” and “yogas” which one performs are recorded in epics of “Ramayana” and “Mahabharata”. Though times have changed long since then, but the health consciousness remains the same. With the present age situation where every body is at a hurry to do things, where no one has time to know each other better, naturally there is time constraint. With the modern era’s concept of fast food chains, there are lot of health related problems. Apart from these even our ever increasing polluted environment also posses a threat to our health. Obesity is on a rise. It has captured not only the old people but even the children are coming in its grip. All these and various other reasons make people realize that there is a need to take care of our body. Today people are becoming aware of the need of a healthy body. Government and private businessmen are launching various health related projects.
Since childhood we have heard about eating healthy food, but what is healthy? There is a bit of confusion regarding it. Because many people still consider having lots of fatty products in their diet. It not only increases the cholesterol level, but also helps in increasing obesity. A healthy diet always includes loads of fresh fruits and leafy vegetables. One should always consider a doctor for a healthy diet. It is an old saying that – “an apple a day keeps a doctor at bay”. The saying redefines the need for health and fitness once again.
Today the common people have become so aware and enlighten that they need to look after there body. Thus we find the emergence of various gymnasiums. These provide people with all the major equipments, which are needed to give the body a proper shape. Today even people are ready to make a small gymnasium in there own home to keep fit and save time. Then there are various kinds of spas and different oil therapy, which are famous in Kerala. They also help in giving body a soothing feeling.
Keeping fit is the only way to live a healthy and longer life. Fitness dose not mean that only going to a gymnasium can make a man fit. Even a simple brisk walking in the mornings and evenings can also do wonders. At this age when various heart diseases poses great problems, walk is the best exercise for anybody and for any age group. It not only helps in reducing calories but also helps in keeping one fit. Though all said and done, but health and fitness is a mental construct. One has to develop a sense of willing ness in keeping one self fit and healthy because then only it can be said that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body.
