Overview – The Internet is the universal, widely handy sequence of the interrelated computer networks, which pass on the data by the method of ‘packet switching’ via the regular Internet Protocol or the IP. It is a ‘network system of networks’, which consists of billions of lesser academic, domestic, business, and the government networks that jointly carry a variety of information, data and services like the electronic mail or the e-mail, file transfer, online chat, and the interrelated web pages and some other assets of the World Wide Web.
The Internet History:
The basic of Internet was layered during the decades of 1950s or the 1960s. The PROJECT RAND of the decade of 1950s was the first step of the invention of the Internet. ‘Packet Switching’ which is a very important concept of the Internet technology was invented during the years of late 1960s. But apart from everything, the Internet enjoyed a huge boom during the decade of 1990s. This is because of the human concern. Mr. Tim Berners-Lee is a huge name regarding the Internet boom. He was the person to start the creation of HTML and HTTP. Even he made some Web Pages through CERN. In those days there was a very popular web browser called Viola WWW. Following the HyperCard technology of Apple Inc developed it.
Current Status Of Internet:
Today’s’ Internet technology is not simple as before. Apart from the multifaceted physical connections, which frame its structure, the Internet is assisted by bi-lateral or even multi-lateral viable contracts like the peering agreements, and by technological stipulation or protocols, which portray how to swap data over the net. Certainly, the Internet is fundamentally defined by its routing and the interconnection policies.
According to the stats (Internet World Stats) almost 1.25 billion people were using Internet in the 30th September 2007. It should be noted that the continent Asia has the major percentage of the Internet users.
Internet Protocols:
Basically there are three levels of Internet Protocols, the rating of which varies on the complexity. The first level of Internet Protocols is for OSI layer 3. Internet Control Message Protocol or simply the ICMP falls in that category.
Second level Internet Protocol is for OSI layer 4. Transmission Control Protocol or TCP and User Datagram Protocol or UDP are the Internet protocols that fall in this level.
The third level Internet Protocols are the applications protocol and for the OSI layers between 5 and 7. FTP, HTTP, and SMTP are the Internet Protocols that fall in this category.
Uses of Internet:
There are lots of uses for the Internet. Lets mention some of them for you.
(1) E-Mail: This is the procedure to send an electronic mail to any person through Internet. To enjoy this facility both the sender and receiver should have registered e-mail accounts.
(2) WWW: The World Wide Web is a scheme of interrelated and hypertext documents accessed through the Internet.
(3) Others: Through Internet one can enjoy the great facilities like the remote access, file sharing, software collaboration, media (audio or video) streaming, voice telephony etc.
