Cats are cozy and lazy characters. They are generally tidy and do not mess themselves up too much. Cats do not need too much attention needed to keep them clean. However, cats with furry coats stand chances of ticks and fleas making their homes in the woolly jungle. So giving a cat a bath once in a while is a very good idea. Having said that, it is not as easy to give a cat a bath, as it is for other pets like dogs for instance. Cats absolutely hate water. They do not want their coats to be wet and spiky looking. They do not like the shriveled look at all. Perhaps this might be something to do with their vanity. So now the problem is how to bath cat without annoying it.
First determine whether your cat needs a bath or a simple dusting up with a towel or a thorough combing is enough. You will need a good soap, shampoo and conditioner, if your cat is hairy. You will also need two towels and a comp. The ideal place will be the kitchen sink or the bathtub. The kitchen sink is better because you can confine the cat within a small area and prevent it from running around. Keep the water warm but not hot. The water should not be cold or too hot, as either of these two will shock the cat. The water should be filled in the sink high enough to immerse the cat but not drown it.
Mix shampoo or soap in the water and slowly immerse the cat into the water. The cat might be agitated at first but will slowly settle down once it gets comfortable with the temperature of the water. Wash the entire body of the cat except the face with the shampooed water. The face can be cleaned by using wet towel. After the shampoo washing is done, wash the cat again with plain water. Wash the shampoo or soap off completely. Now bring the cat out of the water and rinse off any water by using two towels, one after the other. Comb the fur of the cat using strokes in the direction of the hair growth. Now your cat is cleaned and preened for a cat’s day out.
