A wagon is a four-wheeled vehicle, which was earlier drawn by animals like horses or mules. They could be pulled by one or several pair of animals. Today farm wagons are pulled by tractors and trucks. Wagons are used for transportation of people or goods.

The same wagon can be found as a toy for young children. It has the same structure as the larger wagon but much smaller and lighter than the original. It is a fun toy to own for a growing child. On an outdoor trip, the adventures on a wagon can be limitless. Though the use of a wagon is limited to a certain age, it can later be modified to stack presents around the Christmas tree.

If owning it was fun as a child, making it now will be fun and easy too.

Get your children together during this fun activity and find out how to build a wagon.

You will need the following things: hard wood, wooden slats, wagon handle, wheels and woodworking tools.

Decide on the shape and size of the wagon and draw up a plan. It must be wide enough to carry atleast two children. If you do not have a plan, use / buy one of the pre-written plans.

To start the construction, cut the base from the hard wood. Hard wood is essential as it holds the entire wagon together. Make sure the base is measured accurately too. Cut all the other parts like sides and a back. Use wooden planks or slats to give additional support inside the wagon.

The wheels and handle can be bought or made. Once you have all the parts in place, fix them together firmly to make the wagon you desire.

Polish the wood or paint it for the finishing touch.
