Who doesn’t love a good pot roast. Tender, succulent and juicy pieces of meat cooked for a long time over slow fire that simply dissolves in your mouth. Just thinking about this can make our mouths water and our stomachs grumble. The term pot roast can mean two things. A pot roast can mean the cuts of beef meat or the way the meat is roasted to make a dish. Pot roast has always been a favorite with kids and grandmothers alike. Kids adore a pot roast for its delicious juicy meat chunks and the grand moms for the simplicity in cooking the pot roast. There are many ways of cooking a good pot roast. It can be the slow fire cooking method or the rapid-fire method. The slow fire method is more popular as it retains the flavor and taste of the meat better.
To cook pot roast, the first thing you will need is meat. These days, it is very easy to get tender cuts of beef meat at the meat shop or in your nearby grocery. The favored cuts of meat for a good pot roast are the rump, brisket and the bottom round. These are relatively inexpensive cuts of meat and will be light on your pocket. First thing you need to do is season the meat by adding necessary condiments and tenderizers to it and let it remain for some time. You can also season the meat the previous day and leave it overnight in the fridge. The second step would be to select the vegetables for the sauce. This could be either potatoes, carrots, beans or any vegetables that take your fancy.
Once that is done, the meat is browned uniformly all over. This actually enhances the flavor of the pot roast. The browned meat is then immersed in water, beer, cola or any liquid of your choice and cooked over a slow fire. An oven or roasting pot is also a good idea. The browned meat is slowly cooked over the fire and the liquids with vegetables combined give the meat a distinct flavor. Once the meat is well done, you can remove the cooking pot from the fire. The meat can then be served separately or with the braised vegetables. For a very healthy, fat free pot roast cook the meat first and leave it in the fridge overnight and you can remove the fat that has formed on the layer of the meat, in the morning. Now you have a delicious, healthy, appetizing and filling pot roast ready to be eaten.
