They bark when they need something or when they are uncomfortable or when they feel threatened. They also bark when they need attention, as they are creatures that need a lot of attention. Sometimes the barking of your dog might get on your nerves and be a nuisance to others. There are solutions at hand for your dog barking problems. There are many time tested ways on how to stop dog from barking.
Training your dog to behave better is the best solution. Dogs understand only a few words of human languages but they respond better to any action. Your body language to your dog is the best indicator to him of your moods. A successful method of silencing your dog and at the same time to prevent him or her from repeating the behavior is by being stern with him. When your dog barks for no reason, approach the dog and use a word like say ‘No’ tap him on his nose firmly and then walk back. The timing is very important here. Do not do this after some time has passed after the dog barked. Do it immediately, as soon as the barking starts. Do not call out your dog to you but approach it and tap it right on the spot. Always remember not to pet or cuddle the dog as soon as the punishment is handed out. This method always works.
Dogs also bark when they see or suspect intruders. Now you do not want to stop your dog barking in such a situation. So always reward the dog for timely barking and punish consistently for unruly barking. These methods always work. Apart from training your dogs to stop barking, there are external aids that are available to stop dogs from barking. These include medicine and surgery. You can consult a vet on ways to stop your dog from barking and in extreme cases; the vet will suggest the above methods. Other methods will be to use Muzzles, Sound emitting collars, Citronella collars or Electronic collars. A good dog is a dog that barks when needed and not one that barks only to get what it needs; you can train your dog to be a good dog by the above methods.
