Almost all cat lovers or cat lovers in the world will like to have a well behaved and a well trained cat. Cats are cute and adorable but they are also quite pesky and mischievous to a point. This unruly behavior of cats makes some cat owners wonder if they should have got a dog instead. Cats are very different from dogs in their mental make up and this shows in their behavioral difference with the dogs. Many people wonder if they could somehow teach their cats to be well behaved, obedient and act like well trained dogs. How to train cat seems to the million dollar question in everybody’s mind.
Before you start to train your cat, you should understand cat psychology first. Cats are pretty docile characters but very suspicious of everything. They are laid back to a point but when they confront a threatening situation, they become quite aggressive in their approach. So be gentle with them and try to make them understand that whatever you do, you are never going to be a danger to it. Training your cat to do tricks like jumping through a ring or walking on its paws is almost impossible but you can surely train it to use the litter box and be more socially adaptable.
There is only one way to make your cat use the litter box and that is to keep the litter box clean. Periodically clean the litter box, as cats do not like to use a litter box that smells and you will be happy to note that your carpets don’t stink like before. Have a timetable to feed your cat, as this will help the cat’s digestive process sync with a preset time. The aggressive behaviors of cats like scratching and pulling can be either curtailed by gentle admonishment or by using a squirt gun. Squirt the cat with water, as all cats hate this, whenever the cat tries pulling or scratching. Alternatively you can get the cat a scratch post and encourage it to use the post for its scratching purposes. Dangerous habits like sitting on windowsills can be discouraged by spraying the window with special chemicals that the cats find very repugnant. When all these simple training methods fail, there are always online resources and cat care professionals who will help you out. Always remember never to cause physical pain to your cat, as this will make the cat to withdraw from you permanently and you can never train your cat again.
