Is Harry Potters cousin brother Dudley a Wizard?

I think Harry Potter’s cousin brother Dudley is a wizard. Now here are some facts from the Harry potter series that proves this. In the 5th book Harry Potter and his brother Dudley was attacked by dementors. Now you can say that he did not saw the dementors, but I think he did saw it and here is the reason. In the last book of Harry Potter’s series, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” in the chapter – “The Dursleys departing” Harry Potter was explaining that dementors is the reason what was causing the mist, fog, and the cold. And hearing this Dudley raised his hand and covered his mouth, he said, “there are… more of them?” from this we can make out that Dudley surely saw those things and he was afraid too.

Also, in book 6 of the Harry Potter series, “The Half Blood Prince” when Dumbledore went to Dursleys house to take Harry Potter he said something that made me think for weeks, “you did not do as I asked. You have never treated Harry as a son. He has known nothing but neglect and often cruelty at your hands. The best that can be said is that he has at least escaped the appalling damage you have inflicted upon the unfortunate boy sitting between you.” Harry’s brother Dudley got pretty much everything that a muggle parent could provide. So what was it really that Dudley did not have. What was the appalling damage? I think when Dumbledore left Harry Potter to the Dursleys some 16 years back, he promised them that their son [Dudley] will not be given magical education and Dudley would be brought up as a muggle, in exchange for keeping Harry Potter with them.

That means, Dudley won’t have to go to Hogwarts, the place where once aunt Petunia’s sister Lilly Evans went, where petunia could never go. She used to hate that place, and surely she did not wanted her little son Dudley to go there. She must have convinced Dumbledore for this. And thus Dudley never knew he was a wizard, – “appalling damage” Dumbledore called it. This could be the reason why Dursleys must have kept Harry potter in their house? Exchange for their son not being made a freak, a wizard!

As per my theory everything fits quite well, but J. K. Rowling can only provide the final answer.

Now that’s a different way to look at it. I always thought that statement meant Dudley didn’t turn out to be a good human being because of his parents. But surely now that I think about it there are enough references for him to be a wizard.

Dudley is not a wizard, not close. I thought Dudley mighta had magic in him, but then I realized, he was pretty sure Harry had hexed him when the dementors were attacking. Wizards can see Dementors, despite muggle parentage and lifestyle. He punched Harry in the face strong enough to knock Harry to the ground and if i remember correctly cut Harry. its been a while since I read the 5th book, but i remember dudley was sure it was harry. when his mother asked him what happened, he pointed straight at harry. Im sure there are other things in the books to prove he’s all muggle, and i’ll think on it for a bit, but he’s not a wizard. what made me consider it was Dumbledore’s comments in the 6th book, but then i realized he was talking about how the way they raised him made him a mean spoiled bully. I’m glad he wasn’t a wizard tho, could you imagine him at Hogwarts?!?!? Forget Malfoy, Dudley would make the Sorting Hat SCREAM Slytherin, right before it tragically dies… Harry and his cousin, who he lived with an was tortured by for his entire life, would be a very different story there. Harry wouldn’t have the escape from the Dursleys he gets every school year. No, I think its best he stay a mere human =)

OH and here is THE ONE REASON Dudley cannot POSSIBLY be magic: J.K. Rowling has been quoted as saying that she had planned to write that Dudley had a wizard child in the Epilogue, but decided against it as no magical blood could possibly get through Uncle Vernon’s DNA. So that’s the end of that ;-D
