Self Esteem Assessment

Self esteem can be very important in making a success of life. An important thing to note is that not everyone that appears to be confident, especially over confidant, has a good level of self-esteem. Some persons are good at masking or faking confidence and even self-esteem as a way to intimidate or fool others. Other times, it is simply an unconscious reaction to the situation, just as a person instinctively tries to block an attack or shy away from an embarrassing situation.
Since persons have low self-esteem regarding various aspects of their life then it may be hard to pinpoint what they problem is. As a form of assessment it may be good to make note if there are things that a person wishes to change about themselves, what things they believe they aren’t good at and why. Now to counter this it is important to also make note of things the person is god at. Each of the things on the initial list can be tackled. It may also be good to analyze the list and try to see why are these things important to us. Did someone else set this standard? Recognizing that these individual items on our checklist do not affect whether we should love our self or not is a big step towards improving our self-esteem. In the same mode, some things may be beneficial for us to work on. The important point is to separate reasonable goals that are beneficial and can be worked on from unreachable standards that weigh us down emotionally.
Other good questions to ask ourselves include, do I view mistakes as failure or as opportunities to improve? Do I compare myself to others, especially those with whom I do not share much in common? The answers to these questions can be used for assessment the levels of self-esteem and can provide insight into the reasons behind low levels of self-esteem. If we compare ourselves to others then we are setting an unreachable standard. We are our own person. Also, everyone makes mistakes, whether we see them do so or not. Therefore, making mistakes is natural, it is how we recover and learn from it that is important. We should not assume others are better off, that is hardly ever the case. Similarly, we should not assume others will not like us or will notice and care about what we consider flaws. Everyone has their own “flaw” not matter how noticeable you think it is or not.
