There was a news item in some local south Indian dailies that caught the reader’s attention recently. The news papers reported a strange incident that caused quite a stir in the local areas. The said incident was to have happened in Kootukulam village, near Alleppey, Kerala and was widely reported in many local newspapers causing quite a sensation with the local people. The news paper reported the sighting of a snake with two legs.

This reporting created a frenzy of sorts with people from all walks of life, gathering to have a look at the mysterious snake. The snake had the public’s attention for well over a period of three days. The media reporting also increased the interest of the people considerably. Many animal organizations protested against the treatment of the dead snake and against the public exhibition of the dead snake much against the norms of civilized human behavior. It was also reported that many local churches and temples held special services and rituals to appease the gods, as the sighting of the snake was considered as a sign of some evil foreboding. Government officials and the local politicians also had their share of media attention with many of them making a visit to the spot where the snake was displayed for public view. The exhibition came to a rather abrupt end, when some officials from the govt. scientific research institute came to the spot on the third day and took custody of the snake, citing research reasons.

After two days, there was a press release from the institute disclosing details of the walking snake. The results done on the snake proved their suspicions right that the snake was indeed no walking snake, it said. The report went on to say the scientists, upon operating the snake found a dead frog in its belly and the legs of the snake were actually that of the frog that somehow tore upon the snake’s belly, in the last moments in its dying frenzy. Thus the mystery of the walking snake came to a very dull and a rather tame end.
