Why the highest court in India called the Supreme Court? The then Chief Justice[or the Supreme Court] of India has clarified sometime ago that they are called the supreme because they are the final not because they are right or correct always. He stated this in answer to the question from a group of school children. He further stated that judiciary is an institution and no institution is infallible.
Earlier Mr. Jyoti Basu, the democratically elected communist[marxist] ex Chief Minister of the state of west Bengal, the longest surving chief minister of a state of India or probably a state of any country of the world had acknowledged that refusing the post of Prime Minister offered to him was a mistake on his part and on the part of his party and front. These are great men accepting their great and the possibility of grave mistake.
Life is a mistake galore. Mistakes are bound to be made by everyone however rare the occasion may be. Mistakes occur due to ignorance or carelessness. In spite of vast knowledge and every bit of carefulness mistakes cannot be totally ruled out. Frontier of knowledge is advancing continuously and our knowledge is getting redundant every moment. Even a few years ago we knew that putting water on a bodily burnt was the worst thing to be done. Now dousing in water is considered the best fast aid for burning.
Consider this: we chew the food thoroughly before swallowing. We move the food in our mouth so that all parts of the food is properly masticated. But does not mistake occur?
Consider this also: in the Urdu language, the Indian language of the Muslims though many non-Muslims too uses it and had mastered it too put it to best uses, someone very dear is referred to as “jeegar ke tookre” or “kalejee ke tookre” meaning “dil ke tookre” i.e. a piece of my heart. However all non-vegetarian and many vegetarian whether Urdu speaking or not know that, “kalejee” or “jeegar” referrers to the liver. Is it correct to assume that the intention of the doting one is to refer to the loved ones as a piece of the lever, the big digestive gland? Is not some anatomical misconception evident here? From where this mistaken identity has crept into Urdu language? Urdu is a language very close to some Arabian languages.
Regarding chewing the point is we move the food in the mouth with the help of our tongue so that all parts of only the food is properly chewed. But once in a blue moon do we not bite our tongue?
Hence no one should be afraid to make mistakes. Whether one should be ashamed of making mistakes depends on one’s conscience or self esteem.
Don’t be afraid to mistake and don’t be afraid to take or give, though taking or giving both may be mistake but it is better to err on the positive side.
