When To Replace Spark Plugs

There are generally four different reasons why a spark plug would need to change and they all have different effects that you will need to keep an eye out for as this sort of observation sometimes passes the mechanics who give it the regular check ups eyes. The first and most common cause for the need to replace your spark plugs are of course time. This is just the general wear and over worked part of the car that will like all things need replacing like a battery on our favourite watch.

Most cars these days have platinum plugs which are supposed to allow the drive one hundred thousand miles of road travel before they will need replacing so if you have done more than one hundred thousand and you take it in for a check up do not be surprised if you are advised to change them as you will need to.

Secondly if you have maybe examined the electrodes on the plugs and have found them to show signs of being worn down this can actually decrease the performance of the car giving you less mileage and makes you prone to misfires or cylinder failure.

The third reason is the insulation around the electrode has maybe cracked or damaged. This can again cause plug failure so check the insulation and if you see signs of damage then you should probably replace them as well.

The fourth and final reason is that you can also just have a bad spark plug which will probably give you a misfire and should be replaced as nothing is a 100% all of the time not even in this day and age so always be aware of this as it can harm the performance of your car as well.
